The Carer Visa Subclass 116 allows individuals to move to Australia permanently to care for a relative who has a long-term medical condition. This relative must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen and unable to get adequate care from other sources in Australia. The visa applicant must be outside Australia when applying and when the visa is granted.

For Visa Applicants:

- Must not be able to receive adequate care from other sources in Australia
For Sponsors:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Must agree to support the visa applicant for the first two years after arrival
- Provide evidence of your residency status in Australia
- Submit a sponsorship application to the Department of Home Affairs
- Agree to provide accommodation and financial support for the carer
- Get approval as a sponsor before the visa application proceeds
All visa applicants must fulfill the following health and character requirements. This includes:
- Undergoing medical tests
- Providing police clearance certificates from all countries lived in for 12 months or more in the past 10 years
- Meeting public interest criteria as per Australian immigration law
The Carer Visa 116 does not have a standard processing time. It depends and differs on the case.
The base application charge is approximately AUD 1,990*, with additional charges for each family member included and other associated fees (medical, police checks etc.).
